Research Interests

Dr. Maurer's research interests focus on the use of mass spectrometry to understand biological and environmental problems.

Megan M. Maurer is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Mass Spectrometry Core at Arizona State University. She is responsible for maintaining instruments, training users, and performing analyses on the Agilent gas chromatography (GC) triple quadrupole MS, the Agilent GC single quadrupole MS, the Leco GC x GC time of flight MS, Agilent liquid chromatography (LC) quadrupole time of flight (QTOF) MS, the Thermo Altis Triple quadrupole MS, and Bruker MALDI TOF MS. Dr. Maurer also lends her expertise to the Thermo Orbitrap Fusion. Dr. Maurer also serves the ASU community as a compliance officer and maintains high standards of laboratory safety.

Dr. Maurer has 15 years' experience in government, industry, and academic labs with mass spectrometry (MS) analysis for small molecules, peptides, and proteins in variety of matrices, including animal tissue, plant tissue, soil, and water. She has used both GC and LC separation techniques prior to compound detection with mass spectrometry (MS), tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), and high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). She has performed method development and routine analysis on both GC-MS and LC-MS. She also has experience with ion mobility spectrometry - mass spectrometry (IMS-MS) and hydrogen-deuterium exchange (HDX)-IMS-MS. Additionally, Dr. Maurer has experience with other analytical instrumentation including FTIR and UV-Vis spetrophotometry, ICP-MS, and Raman spectroscopy.
