Direct to consumer laboratory testing is rapidly evolving and purported to improve patient care. However, there are numerous ethical issues that are raised by allowing patients to order their own laboratory testing. This symposium will describe the basics of biomedical ethics and discuss ethical issues raised by direct to consumer testing.
