It will provide X-ray pulses so short that they outrun all X-ray damage processes. As a result, scientists can conduct novel science to explore the structure and dynamics of nature and materials as never before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ASU CXFEL Will Be the World\u2019s First Compact X-Ray Free Electron Laser | ASU Biodesign Institute\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kzy6KfTmyoM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The CXFEL brings ultrashort X-ray technology from large scale, expensive multibillion-dollar XFEL&nbsp;facilities at national labs to the university \u2013 the place where researchers work with their students on novel discoveries for a small fraction of the cost. Currently, there are only five large X-ray free electron lasers in the world, so that only five experiments can be done at any time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ASU CXFEL has the potential to be a force-multiplier for discovery. The CXFEL technology may one day be made available to install at other locations to give scientists and medical researchers throughout academia, industry and medicine access to brilliant X-rays in their own laboratories, accelerating and broadening scientific discovery like never before. The CXLS is just 30 feet long, a fraction of the size of giant particle accelerators tradition ally used to produce intense X-ray beams.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The CXFEL will enable:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"uds-list mb-6 mb-xl-10\">\n<li>Movies of biomolecules in action. To visualize drugs binding to receptors at the surface of a cancer cell will fuel development of novel drugs with more specific binding and fewer side effects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biomedical imaging. Visualizing patient biopsy samples will show fine resolution of the cell structure at much higher detail than even a CT scan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Material and quantum science. To unravel the mechanism of superconductance of quantum material will move us to loss-free transfer of energy over long distances. His research spans the fields of attosecond science, ultrafast x-ray imaging and spectroscopy, atomic, molecular, and optical physics, material science, nano physics, high intensity laser plasma physics and quantum science.
