Research Technician

Job Description

Biodesign Center for Fundamental and Applied Microbiomics is seeking a full-time Research Technician position that is available in the laboratory of Dr. Efrem Lim in the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University. SARS-CoV-2 continues to evolve over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, accumulating mutations in its genome that may impact transmission, therapeutics and vaccine efficacy. Hence, it it is important to continually monitor the virus over time for the emergence of concerning mutations. The Lim Lab uses next-generation sequencing technologies to track SARS-CoV-2 in real-time for public health response efforts.

The candidate will perform next-generation sequencing of clinical specimens and work with our interdisciplinary team to investigate mutations in SARS-CoV-2. Recent SARS-CoV-2 publications from the lab include SARS-CoV-2 sentinel surveillance in early 2020phylodynamic epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2, and identifying the emergence of an E484K SARS-CoV-2 variant. Candidates interested in gaining research experience in next-generation sequencing, virology and public health are encouraged to apply.
