Postdoctoral Research Scholar

The Biodesign Institute’s Center for Biosignatures Discovery Automation at Arizona State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The successful candidate will conduct research on microfluidic systems for LAMP analysis.

The project focus is to develop a low-cost, low-power autonomous microbiological analyzer for large-scale, in situ robotic quantification of marine microorganisms. The key vision of this work is that incorporation of new, cutting-edge biomedical technologies into ocean samplers has the potential to enable significant cost reductions, enabling larger networks of automated genetic sensors. Lower cost instruments enable the involvement of a greater number of independent scientists and provide opportunities for exciting, new experimental designs.

We provide the possibility to perform research in an exciting interdisciplinary environment using very well equipped laboratories.

Essential Duties:

  • A PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g. Physics, Engineering).
  • Research experience in designing and implementing innovative microfluidics.
  • Experience with Laser system for plastic patterning and cutting.
  • Excellent AutoCAD and SolidWorks skills.
  • Ability to conduct independent research projects.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with microfabrication (e.g. lithography, etching) and wafer dicing.
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Research experience in designing and implementing innovative microfluidics.
  • Experience with Laser system for plastic patterning and cutting.
  • Experience with 3D printer, thermal forming, laser cutting and/or conventional machining.
  • Exposure to microbiology, cell biology and molecular biology.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g. Physics, Engineering).

Instructions to Apply:

The position will remain open until filled. To apply, please send cover letter, CV, summary of past work, and the names and email addresses of three references to OKED Hiring at OKEDHiring@asu.edu by March 4, 2019. Review will continue every two weeks thereafter until the search is closed. Please put “Postdoctoral Research Associate – Biosignatures Discovery Automation” in the subject line of your email.
