The Biodesign Center for Personalized Diagnostics is seeking an Associate Research Professional. This individual will be responsible for supervising the day to day operations for DNASU Plasmid Repository (https://dnasu.org/DNASU/Home.do). DNASU is a non-profit scientific resource for the distribution of plasmids from the research community. DNASU operates a website for searching and ordering plasmids, ships plasmids to researchers around the world and provides customer service to the scientific community regarding the ordering, distribution, and use of plasmids. The incumbent will supervise two technicians performing the daily procedures of receiving orders, processing subcultures and shipping plasmids to researchers, as well as 2-4 undergraduate student workers. The incumbent will also oversee business operations including marketing, custom projects for customers, and development of new services.
Supervision of the technicians performing the daily operations of DNASU. S/he will provide assistance to customer service requests including answering phone calls, email, and other service requests for DNASU. In addition, the incumbent will participate in trouble-shooting of problem plasmid requests; handling of purchase orders, wire transfers, and checks; sending/receiving of invoices and preparing financial data review sheets. S/he will provide support to in house cloning and informatics cores to support the deposition of new clones and the creation of collections for distribution. S/he will help identify marketing opportunities and assist in developing strategies for increased recognition of DNASU. Incumbent will assist customers in the development of novel projects through interactions with other ASU service cores. S/he will work with the informatics team to update the DNASU website and revise the project plan to align with the needs of customers, internal researchers, and the repository staff.
The desired incumbent will have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or bioinformatics with documented cloning experience (Gateway cloning preferable). Requires excellent written, oral and presentation communication skills, self-motivated and highly organized individual. Preference will be given to those with experience in bioinformatics (BLAST, Python, and other sequence analysis tools), customer service, database (MySQL or MongoDB) management, and laboratory automation (automated liquid handlers, python/VBA scripting).
