Assistant/Associate Professor

Assistant/Associate Professor
Biodesign Institute and Department of Biomedical Informatics

The Center for Personalized Diagnostics at the Biodesign Institute and the Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI) at the Arizona State University (ASU) seek a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This is a joint appointment between the Biodesign Institute and BMI, with a tenure home in BMI. Joining the Biodesign Institute requires sophisticated statistical skills for analyzing big data generated from high-throughput techniques such as microarrays and next generation sequencing. It also requires independently performing analyses using existing biostatistics and computational techniques and concepts to help faculty and collaborators with the design of experiments, analysis, and publication efforts. Candidates are required to communicate with researchers, database administrators, and programmers, and test bioinformatics and biostatistical tools developed in-house and provide feedback and recommendations. In addition, joining BMI as a tenured/tenure-track faculty member requires developing new statistical approaches that generate research publications and funded research. Also, the position requires teaching courses in related biostatistical methods at the undergraduate or graduate levels, mentoring students in research, and providing service to the BMI program, and university as well as to the community and profession.

U.S. News & World Report ranks ASU #1 in the U.S. for innovation (for two years in a row). The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University is focused on innovations that improve healthcare; provide renewable sources of energy and clean our environment; outpace the global threat of infectious disease; and enhance national security. Using a team approach that converges the biosciences with nanoscale engineering and advanced computing; the goal is to find solutions to complex global challenges and accelerate these discoveries to market. The institute also educates future scientists by providing hands-on laboratory research for more than 200 students each semester.  BMI is within the College of Health Solutions (CHS) at ASU. CHS is dedicated to developing the health workforce of the future. CHS is equipping students to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. BMI offers BS, MS, and PhD degree programs, as well as a new online Master’s degree in Health Informatics. BMI is located at Mayo Clinic’s campus in Scottsdale, AZ, and engages in extensive collaborative work with Mayo Clinic researchers.
