Research

Our center and its partners closely collaborate with researchers in Arizona and elsewhere, focusing on experimental; translational and big-data analysis; and clinical, neuropathological and therapeutic research. For example, the center uses data and biological samples from Banner’s Brain and Body Donation Program. In addition, ASU, TGen, Banner and Mt. Sinai Health System researchers are developing an RNA and DNA sequencing database from different brain cell types and regions in 100 neurodegenerative diseases.

Areas of investigation:

  • Clarifying risk, resistance and resilience in Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.
  • Understanding mechanisms that account for amyloid and tau pathology, neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, and cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s and related diseases.
  • Searching for new risk factors, mechanisms, biomarkers and treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Testing promising biomarkers and drugs to treat and prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
