Our Bold Idea

The Center for Sustainable Health (CSH) at Arizona State University’s Biodesign Institute harnesses technology, economics and behavior to improve health outcomes and reduce the financial and human cost of disease. To sustain human health, we believe that health systems must shift their current focus from expensive and ineffective late-stage disease response toward highly cost-effective or cost-saving prevention and earlyintervention strategies.

Our Inspiration

Whether we live in a rich country or a poor country, we now share an increasingly common experience of disease, infectious and chronic. As a global community, we can build on that shared human experience todiscover and implement effective, evidence-based solutions that will sustain health for us, our children andgenerations to come. To support this effort, we seek the active collaborative engagement of key stakeholders:governments, public and private health insurers, regulatory bodies, basic research institutes, industry, andinnovative care delivery systems around the world.

Our Impact

The Center for Sustainable Health has launched the Global Biosignatures Network (GBN). In keeping with ourmission to sustain human health, GBN works with forward-thinking partners to establish a Biosignatures Center (BC) within member systems. The BC serves as a virtual, coordinating center to discover, develop, validate, andimplement diagnostic tests based on new enabling molecular and digital technologies for managing disease withan emphasis on prevention, early detection and effective therapeutic interventions. Crucially, we seek the earlyand collaborative engagement of key stakeholders in order to define the clinical utility and cost effectiveness ofbiomarkers and tests that are most important to each health system.
