The Center for Innovations in Medicine welcomes Phillip Stafford, PhD. Dr. Stafford is a biostatistics expert, advancing understanding of living systems at a molecular level through statistical analysis and modeling. His focus on demystifying complex genetic and clinical data through new measurement and interpretation tools will support the center?s efforts to develop vaccines, cancer treatments and pre-symptomatic diagnostic devices. Dr. Stafford formerly was director of biostatistics for Amersham/Pharmacia in Tempe and director of biostatistics for the Translational Genomics Institute in Phoenix. He also previously served as senior scientist in the department of Statistical Informatics for Motorola Life Sciences.

Dr. Stafford received a bachelor?s degree in both microbiology and botany from the University of Arkansas, and his PhD in Molecular Pathology from Washington University in St. Louis. He performed post-doctoral work in several fields: cancer biology at Norris Cotton Cancer Center, genetics at Dartmouth College, and Neurobiology at the Marine Biological Laboratories. He is a Six Sigma blackbelt and a member of the American Statistical Association and International Society for Computational Biology.
