The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University has named Melvin L. Holcom, PhD, SPHR, as director of human resources. He brings more than 15 years of corporate and consulting experience to this role.
“Mel has a track record of developing and executing high-impact HR programs that are grounded in the disciplines of organizational development and talent management,” said Jeffrey Darbut, director of finance and operations at the Biodesign Institute.
For the past five years, Holcom has worked at Arizona Public Service, with responsibilities that included leadership and workforce development, compensation, and organizational effectiveness. Previously, Holcom was a consultant for Batrus Hollweg International in Dallas, and Psychological Services in Cleveland.
Holcom graduated magna cum laude with a BA in business administration and economics and a BS in behavioral science from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan. He went on to earn a PhD in experimental psychology at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where he applied research in the study of employee health and productivity at the Institute of Behavioral Research.
Holcom is a certified senior professional of human resources and is a member of both the Society for Human Resource Management, and Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
