Postdoctoral Positions (Cyanobacterial Research)

Description

The Center for Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology at the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University is seeking applications for postdoctoral researchers.

In addition to our infectious diseases and vaccine development research programs http://www.biodesign.org/centers/idv, we are expanding a research program to develop new systems for the genetic analysis and manipulation of cyanobacteria using bacteriophages, plasmids, genomics and nucleic acid transfer.  Most work is with Synechocystis 6803 but other endeavors will be with thermophilic cyanobacteria.  Our research focuses on defining mechanisms of biofilm formation and genetic engineering of strains for efficient use of sunlight for photosynthetic CO2 fixation during continuous stationary-phase culture to over produce and secrete fatty acids as substrates convertible to biofuels.

We have positions for postdoctoral researchers with a strong motivation to be involved in research to develop and use new systems of genetic analyses to address research projects of interest and to design, construct and evaluate strains for production of biofuels. Candidates should possess exceptional talents as innovative, self-reliant research investigators. At the time of assignment, the successful candidate must have earned a Ph.D. in microbiology, biochemistry, microbial molecular genetics or a related field. Candidates with past experience working with cyanobacteria, although not essential, will be especially welcome.  Salaries will be commensurate with years of experience.

Qualified individuals should send a current CV, a statement outlining your short- and long-term research and career goals, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to:
